The Model Industry Union was founded and still exists for five key purposes. These five foundations are central to the development and improvement of the industry:
Protect
Provide protection for aspiring and working models in means of awareness of scams, violent and dangerous people working within the industry and health and welfare risks. Protecting brand name and integrity of member agencies, photographers and scouting organisations. Provide a complaints systems and quality assurance guideline to protect all members and ensure a ‘fair playing field‘.
Promote
Promote excellence within the industry, bring public awareness of the model industry, those key people that are working behind the scenes to make the industry safer. Promoting better health and awareness of issues of eating disorders, mental health and drink and drugs.
Inform
Inform the public and trade of news, issues and current affairs. Provide a single source of news, highlights and current issues effecting the industry. Informing those working in the industry of changes to legislation effecting their work and/or business.
Educate
Provide resources and articles to the public and trade in reference to historic figures and trends. Educate those with family and friends working as models as to the nature of the business, the issues faced by models and general safety advice. Provide education resources to schools, colleges and universities to provide a better awareness of the industry. Establish and operate a qualification standard for those looking to train models.
Support
Provide financial and legal support to members of the Model Industry Union that need assistance in issues relating to the industry. Provide free of charge accounting and taxation advice to models, agents, scouts and photographers. Support families and friends of models where needed in reference to issues relating to the industry. Provide mediation and counselling services in disputes.
