Report a problem

If you have problems with the conduct of a photographer, model agency etc then you should report your experiences to the authority responsible for enforcing the law.

If you have been ripped off by a scam modelling agency then the responsible authority is the Department of Trade and Industry and you should report your problem to them by clicking here. Their complaint form mentions Employment Agencies, but don't worry, you've got the right form! - modelling agencies are classed as employment agencies. You can also contact the DTI on their Helpline on 0845 955 5105. They treat all calls confidentially and with sensitivity. Whether they will actually do anything or not is open to question.

Where money is involved you should also complain to your local Trading Standards office. They may be able to get your money back, and they can also make life very uncomfortable for dishonest businesses.

Your local police can often help too. Although there still seem to be many police officers who take the view that anything to do with complaints from people who haven't got what they've paid for is a civil matter and nothing to do with the police, generally their standards are improving and they are worth trying - after all, scam modelling agencies commit the criminal offence of fraud, and they often defraud hundreds or even thousands of people.

Of course, if you have been indecently assaulted (or worse) OR if a child is involved, then the police MUST be told.

We know of one scam 'agency' where the photographer who runs it seems (according to the many complaints received) to be a paedaphile. We always advise the complainants (usually mothers) to go the the local police, who know this man well - but although this man is known to have a number of criminal convictions none of them are for sexual offences so it's obvious that the people who complain to us aren't prepared to complain to the police!

The rip-off merchants rely on the fact that most people don't bother to complain, but you should complain - the authorities can't take action unless you do! We've heard of an agency in South Yorkshire that has just been closed down, and the owner imprisoned, but it took 5 years of complaints of rip-offs, fraud, indecent assaults and rapes before a victim had the courage to give evidence in Court, and we've heard of another, against which there have been a very large number of similar complaints but not one of the victims has yet signed a statement! Please complain, and follow the complaint through.

IF YOU DO NOTHING THEN YOU WILL BE PUTTING OTHER PEOPLE AT RISK!

There is nothing that we can do about rogues, but we can and will try to warn other people who view our website.

To report a problem to us, please send us an email with full details of your experiences.

cannot guarantee that everyone who links to our site is honest and trustworthy. Unlike some other advice sites, we will not recommend any modelling agencies or photographers. The reason for this is that our advice, which is completely impartial, would be useless if we had to worry about upsetting advertisers.
